Inception (2010)

One of my favorite directors, Christopher Nolan (Memento,Revamped Batman series and The Prestige), has another fantastic film on his hands with Inception.

Inception is a fantastic psychlogical thriller akin to Memento but was easier to follow because it was actually a linear plot. The dificult part for most people to follow was the gap between reality and dream, I didn't find it hard to follow at all but maybe it's just me.

Inception has a great cast with Oscar noms, Leo Dicaprio and Ellen Page, Oscar Winner, Marion Cotillard, as well as Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ken Wanatabe and Cillian Murphy.

Dicaprio stars as Dom Cobb who runs a small group of theives who are hired to infiltrate the dreamscape of victims in order to extract information from deep in their subconsience. After botching this final job Wantanabe's character, Mr. Saito, hires them fro a different sort of job, implating an idea, Inception, in the mind of Cillian Murphy's character, Robert Fischer. The only way to do this is to go as deep into his mind as possible, a dream within a dream within a dream. The group needs a new architect which is where Ariadne (Page) comes in being a natural at creating the dream scape. Everything they work for almost comes crashing down when the Memory of Cobb's wife (Cotillard) attempts to sabotage everything that Cobb does.

The movie ends in tremendous fashion and really makes you rethink the entire movie. Inception is definetly a movie that should be viewed at least twice. It is brillently directed, acted and written and Leo is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors as almost ever film hes in is fantastic.

I highly reccomend seeing Inception it is deffinetly one of the best films of the year and it will not disappoint, just make sure to pay attention cuz if you get even a bit side tracked and youll be done.

TRON: Legacy (2010)

One of my most anticipated films of the year, and this one did not disappoint. First off, I understand the Disney wanted Legacy to be a standalone film, seperate, from the original, but I feel that seeing the original made this easier to understand and a lot better of a film. Second, this is one of the most visually stunning movies I've ever seen, I highly reccomend a 3D viewing of the film, you wont be disappointed.

The reason I say you should see the orignal first is that some of the characters may be lost on people who didn't see it. Seeing the orignal provides more depth on Kevin Flynn, to better understand his character, his program CLU, and the whole grid in general.

Legacy introduces the character of Sam Flynn, Kevin's son, who gets pulled into the grid in search of his father who has been missing for 20 years. He finds the organized and sophiscated world his father always spoke of, in ruins and run be ruthless dicatator, CLU. Sam must fight his way around the grid in an effort to enter a portal to return to the real world.

All the actors give a great performance, Garrett Hedlund as Sam was an excently pick, because quite frankly, it seemed like the type of role they would normal give someone like Sam Worthington...which would have ruined the movie. Jeff Bridges is great reprising his role as Kevin Flynn, playing both the old Flynn and the young CLU thanks to modern technology. And Olivia Wilde turns in a great as always performance as Quorra, the helper and protege of Flynn.

The Soundtrack as provided by techno legends, Daft Punk, is excellent and fits the style of the world perfectly. As I said before it is one of the most visuall stunning films I've ever seen. 3D was invented for this movie, this is the real reason why, not Avatar...TRON! It take the same style as the original, reves it up a bit and gives it a bit of a darker tone but just completely stunning and is bound to be loved by any gamer.

I was extremly excited for this movie and I got myself a little worried because the last time I was this excited for a movie was Clash of the Titans...which was a HUGE disappiontment. So thank you Disney, and hopefully we don't have to wait 28 years for another tale from the Grid.

Tron: Legacy recieves 8 "Tron Guys"...out of 10.

Oh...Do NOT play the video game companion, Tron: Evolution...you'll be pulling your hair out and throwing your controller across the room in anger at how bad and clunky the controls are.

Repo Man (1984)

This was a rather bizzare film and I'm not quite sure that I fully grasped the concept of the film but I'll give it a try. I picked this up because I've heard that it is one of the more popular cult films (which may be my reason for not fully understanding the film) additionaly, it was labled in Sci-Fi and I love me some Sci-Fi.

Before watching this I could only question How is this Sci-Fi? They're Repo men they take cars...not Sci-Fi. Well after about 45 minutes I found out why...Aliens...yeahh

The whole movie consists of every repoman in town searching for one car. A car that the government wants tracked down for "classified reasons" setting the value at $20,000 which puts all the repomen in a frenzy. But the car is driven by an Alien in the human form and when people check out the trunk of the car...SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION!

I'll leave this one short because I did not really understand or overly enjoy the film. I would however, give it another watch and maybe a 2nd viewing would help me understand it better. So if you're into the whole Cult genre of films give it a go, if not, I'd skip it.

Repo Man gets 4 "Floating Alien Cars"...out of 10

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

This was the 3rd or 4th time that I have viewed this Kubrick masterpiece. And I still cannot figure out why I love it so much. I mean, not much happens in it, not much dialogue and a few boring scenes but I just enjoy every minute of it.

I think its mostly due to one of the greatest villians ever created, in the super-computer HAL-9000. Its stone cold expressions strike fear into the viewer. Fear that one day we may become so dependent on technology, that it can take over all human control, similar to Terminator.

The special effects are outstanding for the time and can even hold its own against some modern sci-fi films. Often touted as the #1 Sci-Fi film of all time, for me that is still up to debate, but deffinately Top 5.

Back to HAL though, He is one of the greatest characters to ever be written. His conflict with the crew of the Jupiter Mission is stuff of legends.

When he says that famous line "I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that" in response to Dave asking HAL to open the pod bay doors, The veiwer realizes ALL HELL HAS JUST BROKE LOOSE! IT'S TIME TO TAKE THAT MO****F***** DOWN! And is one of the most heart dropping lines every delivered on film.

2001 is such a great film and I implore everyone to see it. But other than the hardcore Sci-Fi fans, many might find it boring.
